Lecco
Lombardy Baroque in one of the most beautiful church in Lecco
The Church of Santa Marta is one of the most beautiful churches in Lecco and it is placed in the narrow Via Mascari, Lecco’s center.
Its origins date back to the 13th century when the church was dedicated to San Calimero. There are no visible traces of its medieval structure, but the church of Santa Marta presumably follows the original drawing.
It has a colonnade façade dated back to the 18th century and the entrance door was designed by the local architect Giuseppe Bovara.
As soon as you are in you are involved in a very particular concentration atmosphere.
On the presbytery vault you can admire a great Baroque fresco of The Glory of Saint Martha, depicted among angels. A perfect ornamental balance enriches the church thanks to the four tapestries depicting the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Madonna of Rosary between San Domenico and San Calimero, St. Martha while steps on the dragon and St. Joseph with the Infant Jesus.
The Statue of Madonna of Plague reminds the plague that afflicted Lecco in 1630.
