The Sanctuary of Madonna of Ghisallo, in the municipality of Magreglio, is placed on the namesake pass and represents an inevitable journey for bike lovers.
The uphill to Ghisallo from Bellagio is traditionally runned by the Giro of Lombardia and it has been several times a stage of the Giro d’Italia. Since 1949 the Madonna of Ghisallo has became the patron of bikers.
The sanctuary hosts many memorabilia linked to the cycling field, among these shirts and bikes of the greatest worldwide bikers: from Bartali to Coppi, to Merckx, Moser and Maria Canins.
Close to the sanctuary there is the Museum of Cycling, on three floors it hosts a multimedia collection related to cycling, a collection of Maglia Rosa from the Giro d’Italia (pink shirts) from thirties up today and other interesting documents and curiosities.
The sanctuary welcomes visitors in its square with the statue of Italian bikers of the past Bartali and Coppi.
It is in the cycle trail n.6.
