Monti silk museum in Abbadia Lariana
The Civic Monti Silk Museum in Abbadia Lariana takes the name from the family who decided to build it around 1818 as a silk spinning mill and then expanded it adding a building for silkworms breeding and cocoons’ spinning.
They replaced the two circular wringers with three rectangular ones still nowadays visible.
The second circular wringer was bought by Abegg’s family in 1934, then dismantled and donated to Technorama Museum of Winterthur in Switzerland in 1965. Switzerland was the country of origin of Abegg’s family.
Monti’s family job was active until 1934.
Nowadays the museum is composed by two buildings: one dedicated to spinning-winder machines, the other is a spinning mill and reproduces a silk yarns factory of half 19th century, thanks to its tools and machineries.
