Colico is a beautiful town overlooking Lake Como, a destination for tourism especially coming from northern European and many fans of water sports, among which kitesurfing is the most appreciated.
But do not worry if you’re not so sporty, Colico really offers different opportunities meeting different tastes.
Do you know that Colico is a crossroads of communication routes leading from Milan to Switzerland and northern Europe? Due to this strategic position in the seventeenth century the fort of Fuentes was built at the behest of Pedro Enriquez Acevedo count of Fuentes and in the First World War the military fort Montecchio Nord, which fortunately was never a passive nor active object in the Great War.
From the forts to the beautiful Nature Reserve of Pian di Spagna: you must have a stroll here immersed into nature. We recommended it as a nice trip for families with children.
At the same time if you are in Colico you cannot miss to visit the nearby Piona Abbey of the Cistercian monks on the Olgiasca promontory. It’s located at the foot of Mount Legnone and Legnoncino in front of Gravedona: here you enjoy stunning views on Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. But not only, in fact here you really breathe tranquility and silence and you can buy monastic products.
