Exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan
Durer and the Renaissance
A magnificent and representative selection of masterpieces by Albrecht Durer (1471-1528), which reveals the intrinsic qualities of his works in the various categories he has practiced – painting, drawing and graphics – highlighting the innovative character from a technical, semantic and iconographic point of view.
In the exhibition there are about 130 works mainly by the master of the German Renaissance between paintings, graphic prints and drawings – which in Durer’s hands assume a value and a centrality in the creative process that is practically unprecedented.
The collection also includes some significant works by German contemporary artists such as Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Altdorfer, Hans Baldung on one side, and on the other by great Italian painters, designers and graphic artists of the Val Padana between Milan and Venice, such as Giorgione, Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Andrea Mantegna, Leonardo da Vinci, Cima da Conegliano, Solario, Jacopo de’Barbari, Bartolomeo Veneto, Lorenzo Lotto.
