A Mining Park in the Heart of the Grigna

At Piani dei Resinelli, at an altitude of about 1,300 meters, at the foot of the Grigna mountain, lies a place capable of telling centuries of history and hard labor: the Anna Mine. Part of the Resinelli Mines complex, it stands as one of the most fascinating testimonies of the mining past of the Lecco area.

The history of these mines dates back to the 17th century: the first written records attesting to their existence go back to 1637. For more than three hundred years, until the mid-20th century, mining activity profoundly shaped life on the plateau, closely linking the fate of local communities to mineral extraction and ironworking. In 1958, due to changing economic conditions, the mines were permanently dismantled, bringing an important yet unforgettable chapter to a close.

Today, a visit to the Anna Mine is an experience that goes far beyond a simple excursion: it is a true journey into the underground. The route, approximately 500 meters long, winds through well-lit tunnels and educational areas that allow visitors to explore the mine in complete safety. Walking through the depths of the mountain, visitors can step into the shoes of miners from the past, observing the ancient mineral veins up close, the rail tracks used to transport materials, and discovering the extraction techniques employed over the centuries.

The Resinelli Mines thus tell a story made of hard work, ingenuity, and tradition. A past that continues to speak especially to younger generations, fascinated by the idea of a hidden world beneath their feet, and that helps enhance the historical and cultural identity of the Lecco area. How to get Mines Piani Resinelli

by car:
– from Milano:
take S.S.36 (Milano – Lecco) (Milan – Lecco) and on the third bridge take the exit Valsassina and continue straight on, until you reach the roundabout in Ballabio. Here take the second exit following the brown sign Piani Resinelli. As soon as you arrived at the first parking area don’t stop, go on driving along the ring untill you reach the camping and another parking area where you can stop. Few meters far you find signs to get to Mines on foot.
– from Lecco:
take the tunnel near the Hospital Manzoni, direction Valsassina. Go on driving to Ballabio, here at the roundabout take the second exit following the brown sign Piani Resinelli. As soon as you arrived at the first parking area don’t stop, go on driving along the ring untill you reach the camping and another parking area where you can stop. Few meters far you find signs to get to Mines on foot.
