Colico – Novate Mezzola
Cycle path from Colico on lake Como to Novate Mezzola, riding through the nature reserve Pian di Spagna.
We are sure this cycle route will leave you open-mouthed for the magnificent landscapes you enjoy while riding your bike from Colico, the last town to the north of the province of Lecco and Lake Como.
Our starting point is near the wide beach of Colico. Here you find the signs and the only path that makes us start this adventure.
The first section is Sentiero Valtellina, it hugs the Adda river to the bridge on the highway SS 36. Be careful while you cross the bridge, because you have to do a stretch on the highway road.
As soon as you have crossed the bridge on the Adda, take the road on the left that leads us to a level crossing. Wait that the bars are raised and then pass it taking on the right onto the dirt road.
Wel… now you are going into the spectacular nature reserve of Pian di Spagna: an alluvial plain surrounded by mountains, which offers us wonderful natural landscapes and an ecosystem of considerable importance.
You can watch different species of aquatic flora and fauna. If you have binoculars in the suitcase, remember to take it with you.
Continue north along the dirt road, following the signs.
After about 5 km you leave the dirt road to take a stretch of a local road to the Ponte del Passo, on SS 340, then continue along the path that runs along the national road SS 402 until you take again the dirt road of the cycle route of Pian di Spagna.
You pass through Dubino and ride along the cycle route n.6 of Valchiavenna to continue to Verceia and then Novate Mezzola, where we will arrive at the Lido.
NOTE – be especially careful if you have children because the route has stretches on roads with heavy traffic.
