Vercurago Beach on Lake Garlate

A free beach easily reached via the Lakes Cycle Path, surrounded by nature, history and the places featured in The Betrothed

Vercurago Beach is located on the shores of Lake Garlate, the stretch of water where Lake Lecco becomes Lake Garlate before continuing along the Adda River. Although it is often associated with Lake Como, this beach actually overlooks a separate lake, offering a peaceful setting that is easy to reach.

The beach is mainly covered with pebbles and is an ideal destination for spending a relaxing day outdoors without travelling far from Lecco. One of its greatest advantages is its location along the Lakes Cycle Path, which connects Lecco, Malgrate, Garlate, Vercurago, Olginate and Calolziocorte, making the beach easily accessible by bicycle or on foot.

Best time to visit

Vercurago Beach is popular throughout the warmer months, although the atmosphere varies depending on the season. During weekends in July and August it can become quite busy, while weekdays are generally much quieter. Spring and September are also excellent times to enjoy the lake in a more peaceful setting.

Swimming information

Please note that the stretch of lake in front of Vercurago Beach is not included in the microbiological monitoring programme carried out by ATS Brianza. For this reason, the Municipality of Vercurago advises against swimming as a precautionary measure. Before entering the water, it is always recommended to consult the Italian Ministry of Health’s Bathing Water Portal and check any notices published by ATS Brianza, where official information on water quality monitoring and any public health advisories is available.

How to get to Vercurago Beach

The beach can be reached easily by car or via the Lakes Cycle Path, one of the most popular cycling and walking routes in the Lecco area.

By bike or on foot
Simply follow the cycle path connecting Lecco, Malgrate, Garlate, Vercurago, Olginate and Calolziocorte. The beach lies directly along the route, making it a perfect stop during a cycling or walking excursion.

By car from Lecco
If you are travelling from Lecco along the eastern shore, drive through Chiuso and Maggianico, then follow the signs to Lungolago Aldo Moro, where public parking is available just a short walk from the beach.

If you are arriving from the western shore via Malgrate, Pescate and Garlate, cross the Adda bridge and follow the signs to the lakeside.

A beach surrounded by nature and history

Vercurago Beach is also an excellent starting point for exploring some of the area’s most interesting attractions:

• the Castle of the Unnamed, made famous by Alessandro Manzoni’s novel The Betrothed;
• the historic village of Somasca;
• the San Girolamo Emiliani Sanctuary.

A visit to the beach can therefore be easily combined with a fascinating historical and cultural itinerary.
