Monte Barro offers wonderful views on lake Como and lakes Briantei. Great biodiversity and rich of historical and cultural sites of interest.

Monte Barro, which overlooks the city of Lecco, is the mountain with the highest biodiversity in our area and Monte Barro Regional Park encloses many specimens of flora you can find only here and many trails to make different and interesting excursions.
One thing is certain: from the top of Monte Barro you will be enraptured by the great scenic beauty that will open to  your eyes: lakes Briantei, the eastern branch of Lake Como, Resegone, the Grigne, the Adda river which flows towards the Brianza and then to Po valley.

Itinerary description

In this article we propose the ascent to the peak of Monte Barro, starting from the town of Malgrate, Gaggio, from Pian Sciresa.
Whether you are coming from Lecco or from Brianza, along the main road at the roundabout (peanuts form) turn towards the mountain and drive towards Gaggio fraction (there are signs), where you find a parking area for vehicles.
Here take the path n. 306 and walk into the the woods to firstly reach the beautiful plateau of Pian Sciresa, where you have to continue along the path n. 301 to the Sasso della Vecchia.
In this first section the path is simple and affordable for everyone, as long as you take the deviation on the path 304, from here the trail begins to climb steeply with sections of elementary and fun climbing. These small efforts will be rewarded at destination. You are at the top of Monte Barro. Stop and admire the wonderful view all around you.

For the descent we propose you path n. 302 that leads to the Hermitage. We quickly go down along the botanical path Giovanni Fornaciari. After a few minutes you reach the hermitage of Monte Barro where you can eat or visit the Center Park and Archaeological Museum of Barro (MAB) and if you are lucky enough to be open the small church of Santa Maria.

To return to Pian Sciresa from the Hermitage take path n. 301 (the middle path) which is located on a paved road that leads us back to the Hermitage, Sasso della Vecchia and  then Pian Sciresa before returning to the car park .
