Itinerary description
The starting point is the parking area of Erna cableway. You get here by car following brown sign “Funivia Piani d’Erna” from viale Montagrappa or taking bus line n.5.As soon as you are here, take the wide path on the right side of the cableway and proceed down in the forest below until you meet a yellow sign “all directions” (“tutte le direzioni”). After few meters we come out on the asphalt road. Turn right and continue to the starting point of path n.1, signed as red/white/yellow.The path is wide and slightly steep for the first part (about 10-15 minutes) until you reach the fork for “Campo de Boi“. Here you go straight on (to the left). The path is mostly shaded. You come out of the woods when you reach a votive chapel and on your left you see some houses. You are arrived in the village of Costa. Here the path forks: going straight on you proceed towards Rifugio Azzoni on Mount Resegone, Passo del Fò and Campo de Boi, while on the left (the one we do now) we walk towards rifugio Stoppani. You cross the small village among its houses and meadows, where on your left a path leads to the Votive Chapel of the Madonna of Resegone, which hosts the plates of many climbers and hikers who died on Resegone. This chapel was commissioned and built by volunteers. From here the path continues into a woods of chestnut trees. We have to walk still about ten minutes and after a curve to the right above us here is Rifugio Stoppani. Here you can enjoy excellent views of Lecco, lake Como, Monte Barro and Moregallo. There are no meadows around where to stop. The shelter has tables for clients in its opening days: Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Rifugio Stoppani is also starting base for other excursions: Pizzo d’Erna via ferrata (2nd leg Range 1), Piani d’Erna, RifugioAzzoni and Capanna Monza, walking through the Passo of Fò.
