Just in the middle of lake Como here you are Bellagio: the pearl of the lake.
Bellagio stands on the promontory dividing the two branches of Lake Como and represents the heart of the lake, the pearl of the lake Como. Bellagio has one of the best views of the lake since the village is located at the center of the Lake where this splits in the two branches of lake Como and lake Lecco: from here you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Alpine peaks, on the right Varenna and Grigne, while on the left the dock of the great hotels of Menaggio and Tremezzo with Villa Carlotta.
Bellagio enjoys a temperate microclimate similar to the Mediterranean coast line of south of France (Provence) and the Italian counterpart (the Liguria Riviera). This feature has made Bellagio one of the top holiday destinations in northern Italy, even in the days of the ancient Romans and left traces in the thoughts of many European writers such as Flaubert and Stendhal.
The old village, where you find distinctive old houses, is crossed by mysterious alleys and characteristic stone-paved stairways lined by colorful shops. Bellagio, same as Varenna, is a very romantic hamlet. Closely linked to the name of Bellagio we find Villa Melzi with its wide and wonderful park, and Villa Serbelloni, a world-known study and conventions center of the New York Rockefeller Foundation , its gardens with stretches of old and exotic trees, occupying most of the promontory Bellagio.
