Malgrate: a wonderful lake promenade overlooking Lecco and Lake Como
Malgrate is an enchanting town overlooking the eastern branch of Lake Como in front of Lecco.
In the past the two towns were linked by a ferry until when in 1336 the Azzone Visconti bridge was built.
Malgrate welcomes us with a new and great lake promenade of European appeal: you can walk and it seems you touch the water. Really so beautiful and you can admire a great view on Lecco and its surrounding mountains: Resegone, San Martino and Grigne.
Malgrate is nice to be visited all year long.
Curiosity: Pietro Vassena and the depth of Lake Como
We all know how deep Lake Como is (412 meters), but perhaps not everyone knows that it was the inventor from Malgrate, Pietro Vassena, who discovered it with his bathyscaphe C3 in the waters of the Lario in front of Argegno. Did you know that Vassena went to greet American President John Kennedy in Bellagio at the foot of his skivass?
The lakeside promenade of Malgrate
Malgrate welcomes us with its new lakeside promenade with a European flair, which touches the gentle waters of the lake and allows us to admire Lecco nestled between Resegone and San Martino and offers us many different views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Inside we find houses of great nobility, such as the two Agudio palaces, next to modest and popular buildings, which have remained as they were in past centuries and are characterized by balconies and wrought iron railings.
Continuing along the road along the lake, you reach the villages of Valmadrera, from where you can take many excursions, including Sasso Preguda and San Tomaso, and if you continue north you reach the promontory of Bellagio.
